"A RETURN TO ROOTS"...

…a rediscovery of quilting traditions through a contemporary artist’s hand.

SHOW and OPEN STUDIO
November 8th and 9th, 9 – 5:30

Renew, Recycle and Return to our RootsWith the turmoil of this year all around us, nothing feels more renewing to me then to return to my roots.  A return to the roots of life lived simply, a return to the comforts of family, faith & friends, and a return to the roots of my craft.

While sorting through old family textiles this spring, I was moved by the thought of many generations of hands thoughtfully executing careful stitches, lovingly and proudly creating these heirloom works of art.  It was this vision of purposeful work and peaceful minds that motivated me to return to the roots of the quilting tradition and rediscover the methods of a more reflective time gone by.  It has been a comfort to do so.

Please visit my studio on Open Studio week-end and enjoy a look at this new/old collection of work.  My one-of-a-kind quilts incorporate my contempory hand-painted fabrics while infusing vintage techniques and the art of recycling fabric.  And please take a look at the textiles that inspired me to do so; my great, great grandmother’s friendship quilt from 1848 (featured in the book “Ho for California”), a silk crazy quilt top from around 1900, my young mothers Yo-Yo sampler and countless items of embroidered textiles.

Come back with me this Veteran’s Day week-end!
